Hello,
I`ve go a question:
Does the MDF-2 work with an electone hs-8??
Can I recieve an store the bulk dump data on it? maybe in MDR-Mode??
Unfortunately I can not find a MDR, and i dont want to
use a laptop. So is the MDF an alternative?

Thanks and greetings

Hi!
No knowledge of  MDF but you need something that first tells the HS8 to send the data. In the HS8 manual there should be the Hexidecimal code for the message that says send data.  A good computer based sequencer will be capable of sending this message which will trigger a reply. The reply will start with the HS8 reponse code ( usually very similar to the request to send code) To then send it back at a later date you will need to edit that code to make it the Send code.

Thanks for the quick answers.

The MDF2 is able to save bulk-dump in the MDR-mode.
But the main-problem is, that the MDF2 doesn`t send a request for the bulk-dump to the eletone.
(Hexidecimal-Code: F0 43 70 70 10 F7)
Is there another possibility to release the bulk-dump?? Maybe a hidden
key-sequence on the HS-8???
I know that the HE-8 got one...  Sad

Hi!
Having looked throught the MDF manual I see no way forward unless you can send the message to the HS8. There is no hidden key for this. It is a case of using a computer sequencer.. An alternative is to go to The Electone Zone site and browse for suppliers of alternative MDR units. There are a few suppliers who modify standard floppy drives to suit the HS & EL range of organs.

Thanks Ken
Modify a standard floppy drive sounds interesting!
Well I did some experiments, and found a way elsewhere.

I turn the MDF in mdr-recieve-mode (using Midi-In port) and then I send
the request-sysex via another yamaha EMQ-1 drive (using Midi-Out port).
(Yes I ve got nearly every type of drives at home EXCEPT THAT CURSED MDR!!!)
The HS recieves the request-code from the EMQ and sends the ram-data to the
MDF....
Well this opportunity isn t really smart, but it works.

Well done. Clever method. In the past I have messed about with similar problems and found a MIDI Thru box giving 1 in and several out to be useful.  By the way how do you get the data back to the HS8

yes, the way back to the HS-8 is the next problem.
First I tried it above the Midi-Thru of the EMQ-1. --FAILED...don t know why--.

I m afraid I will actually need a Midi-Merge-Box. (Or Midi-Thru-Box??? I don t know...)
But they re quite expensive.
I guess first I try to use a selfmade Y-adapter. Maybe it could work, because there are never
two midi-signals at the same time.

I think you should be looking at an MDR-3, not the 2 as if my memory serves me correctly, the MDR-3 was actually built for the HS-8
