Mega Voice Styles

Most digital keyboards create their sound from recording or sampling instruments. When keys are pressed, samples play back. Previous to Mega Voice Technology, an instrument’s pitch was recorded at different increments (C, C#, D, D#, etc.). This method does not capture the subtle nuances that make an instrument sound unique. Yamaha Mega Voice technology captures these missing instrument qualities. On a guitar for instance, players will hear open and mute string sounds, dead notes, hammering effects, slide effects, harmonics and a wide range of strum and body noises. In technical terms, Mega Voice duplicates an instrument’s behavior. In sonic terms, this gives the keyboard stunningly realistic sounds.

Touch Response keyboard feels like a piano

The Touch Response keyboard tracks the pressure applied to each key, changing the sound to correspond to that pressure for a more subtle, fluid, piano-style style of playing.

Extended 128-note polyphony (max.)

Conventional digital pianos quickly run out of notes during fast, dense legato passages: sustained notes are cut off as the instrument “steals” notes to make room for new notes. 128-note polyphony allows 128 notes to be played at once.

High resolution color LCD screen and lighted panel

A 640 x 480 large color LCD display with adjustable angle provides useful, easy to understand graphics and helpful messages for quick access and error-free operation. Conveniently, many panel buttons have lights, making the keyboard easy to negotiate even in less-than-optimum lighting situations.

Over 1100 voices

The Tyros has an outstanding 96MB of Wave ROM packed with new Live!, Cool and Sweet! Voices, 36 Drum Kits, and Mega Voice instruments. Organ Flutes on the Tyros use 91 independently oscillating voices to simulate the rotating tone generation wheels found in classic organs. All functions are represented clearly on the LCD display. A full complement of XG voices rounds out the mix.

Over 300 Accompaniment Styles

Accompaniment Styles back up playing with dynamically responsive accompaniments that follow the keyboardist. Using these accompaniment styles lets everybody, even beginners, give accomplished solo performances. Each Style has up to 8 different musical parts that provide drums, bass, guitar, horns, strings and any other musical instrument that suits the genre of music you have selected. The Tyros also features many different types of Accompaniment Styles. Pro Styles provide professional and exciting arrangements combined with perfect playability. Session Styles automatically enrich the player’s chords with additional color notes or even harmonic progressions. Basic Styles cover a wide range of music while the arrangement is kept basic and generic, and therefore extremely versatile. In addition to the many different chording techniques provided on previous Yamaha keyboards, the Tyros also includes an AI (Artificial Intelligence) mode in both dedicated left hand mode and full keyboard mode. For example, in left hand mode, the keyboardist can play chords using two notes and the Tyros will select the correct chord, based on the previous chord, allowing descending bass lines without switching to “On Bass” mode. Additional styles can be downloaded from www.yamahamusicsoft.com.

16-track sequencer

Use the built-in sequencer with up to 16 tracks (35,000 note capability) to create complex, multi-part arrangements one instrument at a time. Four record modes are available: Quick Record mode for easy and convenient recording; Multi-track Record mode for independent recording and editing of up to 16-tracks; Step Record mode for accurate recording and event-level editing; and Chord Step Record mode for precise recording of chord progressions and pattern variations. TYROS also includes Song Position Pointer, which allows the user to mark sections of a MIDI file that TYROS will either return to when a button is pressed, or between which it will loop. This last feature is handy for live players when they want to repeat the last chorus of a song a few times because they have a full dance floor.

Top-quality onboard effects

A range of top-quality digital effects is available, including 34 reverb types, 26 chorus types and five blocks of 183 insertion effects ranging from spacious delays to cutting edge distortion. Also provided are combination effects and a realistic rotary speaker effect. The Tyros is capable of producing 12 simultaneous DSP effects.

Score Display

In addition to the lyric display, the Tyros also features score display. Full musical scores are shown on-screen for easy performance. New scores can be downloaded with Scorch£. Scorch is a cutting-edge technology from music software developers that lets keyboardists purchase desired selections by downloading from the www.yamahamusicsoft.com website at the click of a mouse. Download MIDI song data and music score data as a set, display the score on a PC’s monitor or print it out, and have the Tyros play the song.

Music Finder

The built-in Music Finder offers an extensive range of music styles with pre-programmed voices and effects setups. Search for suitable styles by music, style, genre, keyword, tempo and beat. Call up a song by title, and the Tyros will automatically set itself up with the right musical style, tempo, sounds and DSP effects. One button press brings up well over 1400 entries – with room for many more as they are created. In addition, four fully programmable One Touch Settings per style and unlimited Registration Memory locations (memory permitting) allow keyboard settings to be recalled at the touch of a button, while the Disk Direct function eliminates having to wait for songs and styles to load. The Direct Access button brings up a function or effect’s parameters with a single button-press. Simply hold the Direct Access button down while you press reverb, for example, to directly access the reverb’s editable parameters.

PSR-9000 and 9000-Pro Compatibility

The Tyros is compatible with the large selection of the PSR-9000 and 9000-Pro software available on the market, and can import old data, including Registration Memory settings, custom styles, multi pad settings and Custom Voices made from sampled waveforms. (Custom Voices that use the PSR-9000/9000-Pro ROM waves are compatible with the Tyros.)

CueTIME and Vocal CueTIME

CueTime is music (MIDI files) that follows as the keyboard is played, to make learning easier. It speeds up, slows down and will even stop and wait. With Vocal CueTime, the keyboard follows singing. Using Vocal CueTime disks or any MIDI files that include the melody (for example: Tune1000 ), sing along along to favorite songs by following the bouncing ball as the lyrics advance. If the song file contains harmony information, the keyboard will add harmony in appropriate places, and will also stop and wait for the next sung note, “listening” to the vocal performance and advancing the music appropriately.

Flash ROM Operating System

The Tyros operating system (built-in software that gives the keyboard its functions) is stored completely in flash memory, which means that updating the keyboard with the latest OS version is as easy as downloading it.

USB and MIDI

The USB connector on the Tyros opens up the keyboard to computer connectivity. Users can copy, delete and move files between various storage devices (Flash ROM, floppy disk drive, optional hard drive) and computers, and can organize data into directories. Yamaha includes a voice-editing software program that allows internal voices to be edited on a computer using a graphical interface. Install the included drivers and music software will provide access to USB output ports one and two, for 32 channels of MIDI playback (the Tyros is also equipped with MIDI A/B In/Out ports.)

Audio outputs

In addition to the main stereo outputs, two auxiliary audio outputs are provided, providing for sophisticated mixing and routing. The Tyros also has L/R loop send and loop return with trim.
